So much for a "free" night out...

Postby Shags on Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:36 am

I managed to secure two tickets for myself and the missus to be part of the live audience at Good News Week on Saturday night. They were free tickets which makes it even better. At about 5:15 we parked in line of sight of the front of the studio, paid for our parking (only $2) and then proceeded to wait in the line.

While we were waiting in line a woman, either cracked up on drugs or having some kind of mental disability, walked through the line (now about 200+ people long) and hurled abuse at anyone who made eye contact. She stopped and had a massive rant at the woman standing in front of us, calling her fvcking ugly, a slut, and all kinds of names which escape me now. She moved on and about a minute later 3 cop cars, including a paddy wagon, appeared out of nowhere, screamed to a halt and they arrested her. There was a bit of a struggle but nothing major. It was at about this time we shuffled inside the studio for an even longer wait.

Fast forward 5 hours.

After 4 long hours in the studio we arrived back at our car, jumped in and headed off to find some dinner. We got back home and the missus looks at the car and goes "hey what are these marks?" "HUH?!". The car got keyed along the bonnet, and down the passenger door. Badly. A few of them cut through all layers of paint and right back to the metal. We jumped straight back in to the car and went over to Glebe police station, thinking that was the one that covered the area where we were in. It wasn't, however the officer took down all the details and promised to pass it over to Central City command who covered that particular area. He gave us a card but no reference number, but I didn't think much of that.

Yesterday I started checking out what my insurance etc covered, and since it's a process I've never been through I had no idea how it all worked. But one thing I did know was that I needed a reference number. We decided that rather than going back to Glebe we'd go to the Central City office. We went it, saw a rather unfriendly officer who took his time doing his thing. After 10 minutes he tells me that a person was arrested in relation to it, and if we could hang around 15 minutes there was an officer who would like to talk to us.

We hang around and a very friendly cop comes out and tells us what happened. Basically the woman that we saw had assaulted a woman near to where we were, then had walked down the street that we were parked on and keyed about 6 keys, including my car, a 370z, an S15 Silvia as well as pushed over a motorbike in to another car. Apparently the bike was a write-off. It was then that she walked down to the back of the line we were on, then that's when we saw her. So basically while I was no more than 50m away, my car got damaged, badly.

In the process of her getting arrested, she attacked a female police officer. Three other officers came in, including the one that I was talking to - he showed me his arm where he had a large bruise - this is where she had bitten him. Crazy sh1t. We gave a statement as to what we saw and between us and the first person who was assaulted we saw absolutely everything.

The kicker is though is that she got put in under the Mental Health Act which means she will not face any kind of criminal charges or basically be responsible or answer for all the damage she caused in any way. This part is a bit disappointing but there is some small satisfaction in knowing that the person was caught.

So today I'm calling up my insurance company to lodge my claim. As you can see in the pics it's no small amount of damage. If they do the job properly they'll have to respray the whole car since it's metallic paint. At a guess I'll be a whole week without a car which is a huge inconvenience. I'll be hitting up my insurance company to see if they can help out with a loan car, but since I didn't check that box I doubt I will have any luck. All I can say is "thank fvck I'm over 25 now" otherwise my insurance excess would've been raped.

Dude with the 370Z must be steamed... can't be more than about 6 months old!

However, I notice a subtle trend with all the cars you listed there as being attacked... they're all Nissans!

He would've been pissed... Those were the only ones that the cop told me about. And he also pulled out his iphone and showed me a video he took at eastern creek of a 370z taking on a Skyline and an MX-5... The MX-5 was left a long way behind.

People suck. I hope your insurance company sorts it all out quick for you.

Lucky you're not in Melbourne at the moment I suspect the Mexicans have their hands full with hail damage claims at the moment.

Yeah insurance is on to it. First time ever I'm making a claim.

I actually rang them last night and the receptionist was asking if I was in an accident right now... Apparently the wait was over 90 min to get through to claims. Car goes in next Tuesday - and the good news is that cause I'm not at fault it doesn't affect my rating. So come august I will be rating-1 for life :)

Yeah, shouldn't affect your rating at all... sometimes they do ask on a new policy, but they're looking for accident magnets, so unless you've had 6 at faults in the last year or something, you'll be safe.

And yeah, that's why you pay through the nose for insurance, so they can sort it all out when it goes bad.

An update on this one... Had a call this morning from the insurer saying they've chased the cops and that they were told that no charges were laid, went in under mental health act etc etc. Ergo the excess would stand. Apologies all round from the girl, which it wasn't her fault.

Five minutes later she rang back - she had spoken to her manager and they agreed to refund the excess ($650) since it wasn't fair on me that I had my car damaged, someone had been caught, but since they weren't charged they couldn't be held accountable. So out of the good of their heart they are sending me a cheque with the refund..

Pretty good experience all round really. Super stoked of course that I'm getting that money back!
